Bob History

The other day I was pondering the word boobs, when used to refer to female breasts, and I couldn’t help but wonder how the word first came into use. Who was it that first came up with the idea to associate that word, which can also mean a stupid or foolish person, with breasts? After a little bit of research I managed to ascertain the fairly interesting history of the word boob. There is no definitive traceable lineage of the word, but most people believe that its origins begin in the 14th century with the word bubo, which refers to a swelling of some kind. The word bubonic is derived from bubo, and was widely used in the 14th century because the Black Plague is also known as the bubonic plague. Victims of the plague had spots of swelling all over their bodies, leading any logical thinker to believe in the connection between the two words. The connection doesn’t stop there. In the 17th century the word bubby came into use in reference to a breast or both breasts together. Again, this is believed to have originated from the word bubo. The progression continues to the 18th century and the word bube, which refers to a venereal disease. Booby came into use in the 1910s and is directly descended from Bubby. Lastly, the word boob came into popularity in the 1940s and is simply a shortening of booby. How’s that for a history lesson?

Now that we know all that I’d like to discuss the male, and oftentimes female, obsession with big boobs. What are the factors that draw men to big boobs and lead women to get breast implants to improve their size? In truth, I think there are multiple factors at work here. First off, there is a primitive drive for men to pursue women with big boobs. They connect with a man’s inner sex drive, the part he has no control over, and drive him to pursue. If you throw two good looking women out on the dance floor and one of them has big boobs, she’ll be the one to attract the most dance partners. I don’t even think most men could explain to you why they chose the girl with the big boobs, they just happen to drift towards her. Like I said though, you can’t blame them; they’re driven by a primitive force that they have no actual control over.

That explains the men, but why is it that women frequently get breast implants that drive their size to the D cup range and beyond. Oftentimes large boobs that size result in back pain, shoulder pain, and other bodily problems. Nonetheless, plastic surgeons around the country are working hard on doing breast implants at this very moment. I believe that women oftentimes end up defining themselves by their breasts and therefore want to get them changed if they see fault in them. They believe that they’ll get a confidence boost if they have big boobs, or perky boobs, and many women do experience this very result so it’s difficult to question their decision. In reality, big boobs make everyone happy so I say go forth with your boob jobs and enjoy.
